Today I left the hostel at 7:30 and got on the road. I throught that the other guys had already left according to the people at the hostel, so I went on alone today. I started my ride early and it was about 45 degrees out which was too cold for me. I put on all the clothing that I had and I pushed, but I did not bring any pants with me, so it was pretty cold the entire morning. It is crazy how cold it will get in the mountains at night. The first ten miles were pretty boring and not much to see, then all of a sudden there was a canyon that I was riding through. It was one of the coolest things that I have seen so far on this trip. It came our of nowhere and kept going for a few miles. It was like I was in another land.
As the canyon ended I entered Sulphere Springs and decided to get breakfast at the Glory Hole. A couple named Randy and Cindy sat next to me and we ended up talking for the entire meal. They were from Denver and found it amazing that I was riding my bike across the country. Towards that end of my meal they said that they would like to pay for my breakfast. I was shocked once again on this trip that people would be kind enough to buy a meal for a complete stranger. They were very kind people and I would like to say thank you again for the hospitality.
After breakfast I got on the road again and headed towards the big climb of the day over the second Continenta Divide crossing of the trip. This was a long climb, but it was not too steap which made it a little bit easier than Hoosier Pass. THe crossing was called Willow Creek Pass and it was roughly 9,621 feet high. I made it up and over and had about 40 more miles to Walden which was the town that I was going to stay in for the night. The winds picked up and it took a painfully long time to finish the ride, but I did make it into town. I found a place for dinner and went to the park afterwards. When I arrived in the park, the other guys were there and it was nice to see the group again.
We all set up and went into the store to get some stuff. I wanted to get some pj pants because it was going to be cold again to night. The store only had womens pants, so I found a pink pair and decided that I need to have something to keep warm. The town was having movie night in the park and I watched Blind Side for a little bit before retiring to my tent for the evening. Overall, it was a great day and I made it about 80 miles. One step close to my goal of finishing.
