Today was an interesting day. We got out of the hotel a little bit later in the day which was alright. We went into town and got some food at the Bike Shop Cafe and started our first day on the Katy Trail. The trail is a crushed limestone path with no cars for 260 miles across the state. There were alot of people on the trail and we were making good time We were shooting for Portland for that night because they had some cheap camping. After about 40 miles I had my first flat tire of the trip. I changed it out and we were on our way again.
Most of the trail was heavly wooded which kept the sun off the trail. As we continued Sean had another flat and we had to stop again to change his flat tire. It really was making it dificult to get to Portland because we had left late and we were having all these flats. We continued on and the horse flies started to get bad. They are the worst part of the trip so far. They are these huge flies that land on your back while riding and bit you. By the time you realize they are on your back the damage has been done. They bit so hard that you will strat to bleed.
Eventually we made it to about 1 mile from Portland. I had my second flat tire. The same tire and the same type of slow leak. I walked my bike the rest of the way and put in my last tube at camp. I really hope I do not have anymore problems. The "campground" is right out side a bar and it looks like it is somebodies yard. It is going to be an intresting night.
