Today I tried to get out early, but everything was wet from the rain all night. I tried to get seperate everything into bag based on if it was wet. I got everything packed and said goodbye to my fellow camping family. I was on the road and it was foggy, which made it harder to see down the road. The night before I moved my clips on my shoe to remedy the pain in my knees. They seemed to feel alot better today and I was only going to ride 38 miles or 52 depending how I felt.
I made it to Troutville by 12 and decided to stop at a BBQ food truck on the side of the road. I got a BBQ pork sandwich which was amazing. I decide to head to Catawba which was the only town for the next 52 miles. My map said you could camp behind the store in town, so I went for it without even giving it a second thought. This section of road was tough and it was the first time I had to walk my bike up a few hills because my legs were so tired. I took my time because I only had 14 miles and there was alot of time before the sun went down. I made it to Catawba tired and ready to eat something.
Problem! The store had gone out of business and you could not camp out back because it was full of stuff. This is when I got pissed off and started to yell. I had two options at this point. Go back the 14 miles to Dalesville or contunie on to Christiansburg which was another 38 miles. I was affraid that I would not make it to Christiansburg before night fall because it was going to be alot of climbing as I was in the mountains. I decided to go for Christiansburg. I pushed my self really hard and made it to the last big climb with no energy left. I walked and rode some of it and found my way to a park bench to relax for som time it was only 6 pm. I decided to stay a hotel tonight because I was exausted and my caming stuff was still wet. In total I did 90 miles today through the mountains and it is only going to get tougher as I go over the back side of the mountain range.
I find it amazing to see where I am and where I started on a map. I have done about 350 miles in 6 days which is a good pace for a person that could not train for the mountains. I am going to call it an early night and I hope everybody is doing well. Thank you to all the people that are reading my blog and sending notes or comments.
