Today we left the comfort of the cabin in Mudddy Gap and got on the road early. It was still a group of five of us riding together and we seem to be meshing better than anybody I have riden with on this trip. We were still riding through high dessert condition, but the scenery was still great. We stopped at Split Rock which was a mountain of shattered rock. It was pretty cool and after reading a little bit of history, this was one of the major landmarks on the Oreagon Trail.
The next stop of the day was Jeffery City which was an interesting town to say the least. It was a run down town with some residents and a Cafe/Bar. We stopped for a break and met the guy who owned the Mokking Bird Pottery Shop. He makes clay pottery and shoots them with guns when they are wet to give them cool looking holes. He was a great guy that seemed to like to party a little bit. He continued to talk to us and then asked if we would like to go shoot some guns as we were leaving. It would have been fun, but we all decided to move along.
After leaving Jeffery City the weatehr took a turn for the worst. It began to rain and we were in the middle of no where. We stopped at the only rest stop on the road and decided if we were going to press on to Lander which was about 39 miles away. The rain had picked up a bit, but we all decided Lander sounded better than sleeping at a rest stop in the rain. THe scenery truned to red rock during this portion of the ride, but I could not get any pictures because it was raining to hard. I saw a few dead rattle snakes on the road which ment we were back at an elevation where we would be seeing some snakes again.
After getting into town we met a guy who was camping behind a hotel. We decided to join him and set up camp after going to the brewery in town. They had great food and a great happy hour deal. Needless to say tomrrow morning is going to be rough, but well worth it. The rain has not stopped and it seems like it is going to be a long wet night.
