July 31, 2014
Today is the last day in July and it is pretty exciting to think that I have been on the road for over a month. Everyday while I am riding I think about how I am actually doing this trip and I am going to ride my bike across the United States.
I am still alive, after an interesting night sleep in the bear infested campground. I put my hea phones in last night and I actually slept pretty good considering the situation. I made it to the Grand Teton National Park today and Yellowstone National Park. I have seen Yellowsstone before, but the Grand Tetons were amazing. As I was riding into the park that is all I looked at the entire time. As they got closer, they became even more amazing. I made it to Colter Bay at around lunch time which is a bay on the lake that runs along the Teton Mountains. The only thing that sucks is that I will be riding through these two parks on the weekend when traffic will be heavy with some narrow roads. It seemed like I was stopping every 5 or 10 mintues to take a picture and get lost in the scenery. As soon as I left the Teton National Park a storm rolled into the area. I stopped at the only gas station on the road until the campround I would be staying at and I tried to wait out the storm. I eventually got on the bike and pushed forward through the storm. I had a big climb into yellowstone and it was raining extremely hard. There were points were there was a 500 foot drop into the canyon a foot away from the shoulder of the road. It was an extemely stressful ride, but I made it to Grant Village where I would be spending the night. As I pulled into the campground I was greeted by the local Elk. It was amzing how big this animal was and it was a treat to see something like this during the ride.
I got into camp and made dinner before having a fire with the other guys. This was only the second fire that I have had on this trip and it was nice to relax by a warm fire for the night. I am exicted to see some of the sights tomorrow, but it is going to be another tough day with traffic and people. Well, I am going to fall asleep for the evening and get ready for the big day tomrrow.
