Good morning! I had a great nights sleep last night in the gym at the church. People were great and I was able to wash my clothes in a sink finally. It is amazing how much you miss some of the little things in life. I woke up early and go on the road. I wanted to make it about 70 miles to Combs, so I could be in Berea by Tuesday. It was going to be some big days of riding, but I could see the end of the mountain range. All the locals were saying it flattens out by Berea.
It was an up and down day with some narrow roads. I had to walk up some hills today because my legs are tired and it is hard to push myself over some of these hills. Everything is extremely mental and it is amazing how far you can push your body. My knees have ben better, but they really need a day off in order to be 100%.
Kentucky is everthing that I had expected. The houses are all run down and it look like an episode of hoarders on the front lawn. They have garbage everywhere and do not seem interested in having a property that looks nice. The other major problem that I have encountered is the dogs. I run into at least 10 dogs a day now and they love to chase bikers. I have found that a whistle does not work and the solution is to yell at the dogs. Alot of times they seem to back off, but I have heard of some bikes macing a few dogs. It is amazing that the owners do not lock the dogs up because they just run into the street and I am suprised they do not get hit by cars more often.
Overall today I road about 70 miles and made it all the way to Combs.
