After alot of talking we have decide that we are going to go off route and take the Katy Trail in St. Louis. We left early this mornnig as Brad's wife was going to work. We were down at the street and the 6 month old puppy ran down to see us off. The dog was in the street and a car was coming and I grabbed the dog and pinned it to the ground because I did not want it to get hit. The truck got close and the dog freaked out and wiggled out of my hands. She ran into the street and right into the back of the truck. The dog was laying in the street crying and I ran over to see if it was alright. The dog then got up and ran to the house and seemed freaked out. The wife said it was okay and it was not a big deal. Their last dog got hit by a car and she said the dog would be fine.
We started riding for the day and all I could think about was the dog. I was hoping it was going to be okay and live. We were going to try and make it to Chester today and get within striking distance of St. Louis. We stopped at a bike shop in Carbondale and they gave us a beer. We were talking and they said they had a guy levae two of his maps at the shop a few days ago. I instantly knew they were Charlies maps. I had given my first two maps to Charlie because he could not find his. I asked them if he had a beard and a buzzed head. They said yea he had gone up to Chicago for a few weeks and he was starting his trip again. I started laughing and called Charlie to let him know I found his maps. After a long day of winds and flat tires we only made it to Murphysboro and stayed at a campground. We meet a guy going eastbound and we called him Portland. He was cool and sait it was a good idea to skip the Ozarks.
We ate dinner at "the best bbq place". It was pretty good, but I have had a better bbq on this trip. We made our way back to the campground and we were the only people saying there for the night, so it was kind of creepy. Well, have a great night everybody.
