So cell service and wifi has started to get harder to find as I have gotten into the mountains. I am going to keep writing and upload the blog as soon as I can find some internet. Today I woke up in Fort Chriswell and the weather continues to say scattered storms, but it never seems to rain. It is overcast and today is going to be a big day with some minor climbs and another 1500 foot climb to get over the first peak and into Troutdale to a hostel that is for bikers and hikers in the area.
My day was gonig well and I moved my clips around on my shoes to get my knees to feel better. It was an up and down day. I was getting places quicker than I had expected and I made it to Troutdale at around 3pm. I made it over the first big climb and I was tired. I found the hostel and walked into the bunk house. It was a little two room house with 2 bunks in each room. It was the perfect place to spend the night because it was free. I sat on the pourch and was looking at the map. I realized that I had one more 1500 foot climb and it was down hill all the way to Damascus. I decide to go for it and I pushed myself hard over the peak to the down hill section. It was amazing on the way day. There were deer everywhere, waterfalls, road cut throught the mountain cliffs, and a big river.
I made it into town and talked to Crazy Larry about staying in his hostel, but he wanted $35 for the night. I thought it was a little expensive and I made my way to "The Place" which was a church hostel in town. It was only $6 for the night and there was 2 other cyclists staying there. I ended up talking to them for a while and they were from DC. They were heading to New Orleans before they had to start Grad school. I also meet some of the hikers. It was a great place to stay and even better company.
