Today was going to be a big day. I was shooting for Kansas and I wanted to get back onto the maps after taking the side trip to the Katy trail. I was excited to get into the flat lands of Kansas. The day started pretty badly because two of the road were closed. I had to find another route around. I also did not realize that google maps would take me on gravel roads with my bike. It was a bad 20 miles to start the day. I made my own route that would keep me on paved roads for the rest of the day. The winds were pretty bad today and they were blowing southeast. So, every time i was riding south it was awsome and everytime I rode west it was the worst hour.
I made pretty good time and it was pretty hilly through the area. At about 2pm I made it into Kansas. I was excited to ride on flat ground but we had a problem. The hills seemed to be even worst in Kansas. It is amazing that people say that all of Kansas is flat, but in reality that is not true. I noticed a bad storm that came out of nowhere and I found a gas station to hang out at while it passed. I got back on the road and finished the 20 miles which brought me to Fort Scott Kansas. It is a Civil War Western Outpost and they have an old fort in town with a cool old town. I am staying at the Twin Mansions B&B which I found on warm showers. THey let me stay for free because they are amazed with the people that are on this trip and they want to help out. It is two mansion that were build in the 1850's for two New York bankers. They are extremely nice rooms and really cool old homes. This made my evening.
